EKKO ASTRAL
Armed with pummeling gothy grooves, acidic wit and earworm hooks, Ekko Astral brings the mascara moshpit mayhem you crave. The five-piece band was founded by journalist and songwriter Jael Holzman to have fun singing Jell-O sweet melodies about modern living over thrashy licks and relentless drums. Equal parts inspired by classic punk rock acts like The Stooges and today’s art pop, their 2022 debut QUARTZ has been called a “propulsive mix of garage rock shagginess [with] the harrowing vocals and chilly guitar tones of your favorite punk bands.”

Holzman grew up in Rockville, Md. She loved singing early as a child, learned how to play guitar at age 11 and wrote songs for bands throughout high school and college. When she came out as a transgender woman in 2020, she wrote her friend Liam Hughes with a proposition: what if they made a record about transitioning as it happened? Two years later came QUARTZ, a six-track EP laying the groundwork for Ekko Astral’s future as masterful storytellers capable of addressing everything from queerness and femininity to social media and technology-induced dissociation.”

Crush Fund are a three piece punk group from Brooklyn New York – Wendy Kya (guitar, vocals, production), Nora Knox (drums, vocals) and July Brown (bass) – with explosive punk rock sound that collides hardcore punk energy with post-genre noise pop production. Taking note from dance-punk beats, hardcore/grunge riffs, and angular indie rock, their shows are a busy tug of war of feminine rage, and queer joy. More simply, as they put it, Crush Fund is “Some fucked up pop songs, from some girls trying not to take themselves so seriously.”
