THE R&B CLUB PRESENTS: WHEN HIP-HOP & R&B COLLIDE II
One of the better aspects of R&B and hip-hop collaborations is how a verse, hook, or bridge can elevate a good song to great. The two genres have been smashed together frequently through the years, sometimes borrowing from as much as they’ve supported one another. People of certain generations tend to wax eloquent about hip-hop and R&B of the 1990s and 2000s, but for what it’s worth, that’s when their combination was at its most influential.
The R&B Club has looked at these collaborations before, mostly focusing on R&B songs with hip-hop features. Now, because we enjoy this topic so much, we’re doing the opposite. Next month, we’re diving into hip-hop songs with R&B features. Meet us at Songbyrd on Sunday, October 13, to talk in detail about what makes the Notorious B.I.G.’s “One More Chance” remix arguably the best example of this on multiple levels, and how someone like LL Cool J has made it work with various R&B artists across decades.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, but remember: get yours sooner than later. The last time we did something similar, it sold out quickly. Don’t be left watching the Instagram Stories, wishing you were there.

The R&B Club is a cultural gathering founded in 2018 that discusses the influence of R&B music. In other words, think of it as a musical book club style meetup. Follow us on social media at @therandbclubdc for more information.
