Welcome Back!

Oct 22, 2021

Since opening in 2015, Songbyrd Music House has brought the freshest music programming and up and coming artists from Washington D.C. and beyond to forward-thinking DC-area music fans, being named Washington D.C.’s Best New Venue in 2016, Best Place for Dinner and Live Music in 2017-2020, Best New Location in 2021 and among the Best Places to Experience Local Music from 2018-2020 by Washington City Paper readers.

Now, Songbyrd Music House has launched the next step in its musical journey—relocation to 540 Penn Street, N.E., the former location of Coconut Club, in the Union Market District.

In case you missed it, the Songbyrd team opened Byrdland Records in the Union Market District in October 2020 (www.byrdlandrecords.com) and this venue relocation will serve to consolidate Songbyrd’s musical offerings in one of the most unique and exciting areas of Washington, D.C., giving us the opportunity to re-integrate the synergies of locating Songbyrd Music House and Byrdland Records near each other.

Co-owner Alisha Edmonson states, “The response to Byrdland Records in the Union Market neighborhood has been fantastic and we are really excited about what this new venue location will offer for Songbyrd fans and show goers. Not only will relocating near Byrdland Records allow us to re-introduce interesting integrations between the record shop and the venue, but the space itself is an amazing live music opportunity with 17+ foot high ceilings, large rollup doors, expanded outdoor space, nearby parking lots and state-of-the-art food & beverage equipment and infrastructure”.

As the newest upcoming addition to the Union Market neighborhood (www.unionmarketdc.com), the ~3,000 square-foot Songbyrd Music House will have a similar capacity to it’s existing basement venue and will continue to offer everything you’ve come to expect—fresh, interesting and fun live music, an eclectic mix of artists and genres, and a great food & beverage program in a welcoming environment; in other words, all the things that led Pitchfork to list Songbyrd Music House among America’s 36 Best Independent Venues.

“In the past, Songbyrd has been the first place that DC-area fans got to see Khalid, Tyler Childers, Tank and the Bangas, Jessie Reyez and so many more. The amazing thing that happens at Songbyrd is that you’re literally inches away from your favorite artist and someone who is going to be that ‘I saw them when’ story”, Lapan beams.
