If the B52s were raised on dive bar Miller Light and 90s coming-of-age movies, they might sound something like The House You Grew Up In’s dancey, tongue-in-cheek rock n roll. The House You Grew Up In, abbreviated THYGUI, is a 5 piece psychedelic pop-rock band from Washington DC. THYGUI blends the sound and feel of late-60s-era psychedelic rock with the abstract lyricism and flippancy of indie bands of the 90s and 2000s like Pavement and The Unicorns. THYGUI’s first full album, Spooky Times Call for Spooky Measures, was released in October 2022 and their second album, Unlikely Shades Of, is slated for release December 20, 2024.

-- If you could blend the essence of The Black Keys and the intensity of Nirvana, you'd land squarely in the sonic realm of Red Medicine. This gritty blues rock outfit combines hypnotic guitar riffs and soul-stirring vocals to create cathartic live shows. Red Medicine has become a familiar presence in both the Northern Virginia and DC music scenes, thanks to their extensive performances and contributions to the local musical landscape. -- KINDA EVIL brews 70s-hard rock and 90s-stoner metal with an inky dash of ‘riot grrrl’ punk for searing songcraft and spellbinding shows. Appealing to listeners of The Dead Weather, Black Sabbath, Hole, and Queens of the Stone Age, KINDA EVIL severs the polarity of good and evil in a cauldron of high octane energy. Psychedelic vocals electrify tempo shifts while menacing riffs vaporize into foggy far-out ballads. Dark, potent, and bittersweet; we’re all a little evil. Montgomery County’s very own Chad Frick has the DMV to thank for the stories told in his debut album, Momentum. The 23-year-old songwriter’s lyric-centered acoustic-heavy blend of folk, country, rock, and pop combines with his on-stage charisma to put on a hell of a performance. Quitting his budding career to embark on his “own Alaska,” Chad is all-in, dedicating himself to expressing his passion for life through song. Listing influences as Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen - Chad’s greatest strength is as a storyteller. This, his first true ticketed show, will be something you brag about attending decades from now.

Flowers for the Dead is the Washington DC based rock project of guitarist/vocalist Ella Buskirk, and drummer Rickey Martinez. Blending elements of indie rock and shoegaze while nodding to the bands influence of 90’s alternative rock.

People in my life / so beautiful — none of them have the right to be alone," goes the one-two punch in the chorus of Prude's "Cowboy Beatdown," songwriter Nick Bairatchnyi's signature rasp catching around a minor chord as he pleads. "When I call / pick up the phone," he demands, and the instrumentation pummels home this insistence. The single is a shoulder-shaking reintroduction to the DC rock band and the first hint of a full-length record to follow. The song sounds desperate, and for good reason — why should we accept the status quo of allowing ourselves to casually grow apart from the people that sustain us? Prude asks, maintains eye contact, and asks again. Nick Bairatchnyi has long practiced a habit of examining connection in song — the longing for it, the obstacles to it, the surprising shapes it takes — initially forging his insight in beloved indie-pop act The Obsessives, a project formed while Bairatchnyi was just in high school. Even then, his poignant ability to capture the space between individuals was clear — no matter how saccharine their hooks, Bairatchnyi's pathos always grounded the band's emotional palette. The founding of Prude marks a return to Bairatchnyi's native DC — the outfit consists of his childhood friends in Ray Brown (drums) and Alex Bass (bass / mixing / engineering), both also of Snail Mail — but their sound is undeniably inflected by an early adulthood stint in Philadelphia, a city where the form and function of songs are twisted into brilliant, novel results in basements any night of the week. But while some use abstraction to affect distance, Bairatchnyi and his collaborators wield their schooling in it to name the degrees that separate us from one another. "Now I'm part of you and you're part of me," he sings, rivulets of feedback and distortion coursing around him. "Let's close the door and obliterate the mystery

ReachRow Throw Go are D.C.’s #1 eco-emo folk punk freaks. Fronted by dynamic duo Nick and Michael, RRTG’s upcoming first album release, “Hope I’m Wrong”, is an energetic and cheeky meditation on all the things that stress the guys out — on streaming platforms starting 9/1. They run the folk punk genre gamut from the swamp to the hills, with plenty of other influences like midwest emo and pop punk that inform their cynical-but-sappy ethos. Reach, row, let’s freaking go. Instagram | Music

Girls on Toast is a queer femme punk band based in DC. They mix serious messages with an upbeat sound, with an approach to punk that is reminiscent of 90s female-led bands but with a silly and refreshing twist." Instagram | Music

Trash Boat and the Ambush are an eclectic anarcho punk band from Washington, DC. Their sound can be straightforward punk rock or folk punk, but there’s also ska, jazz, country and whatever else occurs to them in the mix. The members include Andrew Pendergrast, who uses Trash Boat as his nom de guerre, on guitar and vocals, Nick Peavy (also of Reach Row Throw Go!) on bass, Adam Hickox on Harmonica and tenor saxophone and John Heinze (also of Everyday Everybody) on drums, but there’s a rotating cast of miscreants who play various other instruments that might show up on a given night. It’s a bad ambush if you know how many people there will be.
