  string(1736) "In the five years since The R&B Club has been a thing, we've become known for particular moments, specific albums — but really — certain artists. We've heard for YEARS how we need to run this one back because some couldn't make it. Some didn't know about us at the time. Regardless, we're spinning the block. You don't want to miss this. Our next event pays homage to one of the greatest and most influential tour de forces in R&B history: Jodeci.

We've always been known to sing, dance and have fun. Only this time, we're not focusing on a particular album — like we did for our very first event in February 2018 on ‘Diary of a Mad Band.’ Instead, we're focusing on Jodeci's entire catalog! Yes, "Forever My Lady," "Come & Talk To Me," "Stay," "Get On Up" and far, far more with the backstories and nuance only The R&B Club provides. We're a book club-style meetup, but something tells us this may turn into a full-fledged karaoke session. We’d actually prefer that!

The R&B Club is a cultural group founded in 2018 by music aficionado Ashley-Dior Thomas, entrepreneur and writer Marcus K. Dowling, award-winning writer Julian Kimble, and critically-acclaimed author and journalist Justin Tinsley to celebrate the legacy of soul music. In other words, think of it as a musical book club. Undergr00ves presents: Georgetown Student Artists Night

On May 7th, we welcome a group of student artists from Georgetown University to perform at Songbyrd. The show will be separated into thirty-minute sets. Each artist will perform alongside their band to showcase a wide variety of musical genres, including indie, hip-hop, and alternative rock. All the profits made from this concert will be redistributed to the artists and their bands. They have been working hard and can not wait for this opportunity to demonstrate their talent on a larger stage

Oregon-based songwriter Anna Tivel’s newest album Outsiders starts with a lens so wide that we have left the planet to look back from a great distance at the turmoil and beauty of our shared humanity. From there, the lens pulls close and unfolds in a gripping collection of stories so often ignored. Tivel’s flawed and honest characters move through a landscape of hurt and loss, of small triumph and big love. In 11 songs full of recognition, veracity and hope, Tivel’s watchful and empathetic eye details the undeniable ache of living.

No Depression calls Anna "one of the finest storytellers modern folk music has to offer, with lyrics so literary that it’s tempting to think of her as a poet with an exceptional gift for playing guitar and singing." Her new album Outsiders released last August via Mama Bird Recording Co. An NPR favorite, it was Ann Powers' #1 Album of the Year and landed on NPR's Best Roots Music of 2022 list. Harmful Anti-Trans laws are being pushed across the country in a coordinated effort to attack civil rights and to encourage a culture of hate.
