In the deep Upstate New York winter of 2022, trees bare and taunting, Nandi Rose found herself searching for an apricitic clarity. She has always found the season difficult; its ruthless theft of birdsong and flora, heavy clouds low and smothering what little light remains. But the cacophonous silence of that winter was particularly brutal. It should have been stirred by the growth of life, a promise of a new chapter, a bright dawn, as Rose learned she was pregnant with her first child. That promise was broken in early December, when stillness took over the ultrasound screen; slow-motion mouths told her the life inside her had ended. Like a snapped branch weighed down by leaden frost, Rose lost a part of her future she thought would blossom. Baldwin tells us we must say yes to life, to “embrace it wherever it is found – and it is found in terrible places – nevertheless, there it is.” This is the guiding force of See You At The Maypole, the sixth full-length album in Half Waif’s prolific catalog. If we look for color in the midst of our own personal winters, the brightness will soon begin to bounce off the snow. This gathering of resilience and clutching of chiaroscuro––celebrating both light and dark––guides us on a journey towards acceptance and surrender. Rose had to figure out how to love her life, even if it didn’t look like what she wanted it to. See You At The Maypole was originally intended as a departure from the darker works of Half Waif. Whereas 2021’s Mythopoetics dealt with familial traumas and the patterns we carry with us, Rose––armed with the anticipation of planning her own family––envisioned a new collection of soft and joyous odes to motherhood, and to new beginnings. That writing sparked in the summer of 2021 at a solo retreat in the Catskills, as melodies formed in a small cabin overlooking a luscious and rain-rippled pond. A month later, Rose found out she was pregnant and anticipated nine months of writing through a new, maternal lens, speckled with the verdure of certainty. But when that soundless morning arrived in December, See You At The Maypole took on a new life. One that would seize the uncomfortable reigns of uncertainty.
-- Structured to unfold like a dream, the debut album by NOIA combines an array of languages - Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, English - and traditional sounds from her childhood in southwestern Europe to process her personal transformations over the past two years while living between NYC and Barcelona.    " ["post_title"]=> string(39) "HALF WAIF - SEE YOU AT THE MAYPOLE TOUR" ["post_excerpt"]=> string(0) "" ["post_status"]=> string(7) "expired" ["comment_status"]=> string(6) "closed" ["ping_status"]=> string(6) "closed" ["post_password"]=> string(0) "" ["post_name"]=> string(9) "half-waif" ["to_ping"]=> string(0) "" ["pinged"]=> string(0) "" ["post_modified"]=> string(19) "2025-01-13 00:07:45" ["post_modified_gmt"]=> string(19) "2025-01-13 00:07:45" ["post_content_filtered"]=> string(0) "" ["post_parent"]=> int(0) ["guid"]=> string(58) "https://songbyrddc.com/?post_type=event_listing&p=585" ["menu_order"]=> int(0) ["post_type"]=> string(13) "event_listing" ["post_mime_type"]=> string(0) "" ["comment_count"]=> string(1) "0" ["filter"]=> string(3) "raw" } Ticket:

  string(2494) "Saleka is an Indian American songwriter/musician/actress who began playing piano at age 4.  She left behind years of classical piano training to begin pursuing R&B music at age 16. She now recalls this passion-driven, teen rebellion moment as a pivotal one as she’s on the cusp of releasing her first full-length body of work, 2023’s Séance via Range Music/Virgin Music/Capitol Records.

This debut full length incorporates her over a decade of classical training while she creates a sound both entirely new and also deeply rooted in the world of jazz, R&B, singer-songwriter, and neo soul. Each song compliments the next, the album serving as a free-flowing stream of consciousness as Saleka—who writes, produces, and plays instruments throughout—walks listeners through her experiences as if you are getting to read her personal journal.

Saleka has performed at iconic venues across the United States, opening for both R&B legends and up-and-coming artists such as Giveon, Summer Walker, Baby Rose and K. Michelle.  She has also performed at Bonnaroo, ACL, Philly Music Fest and Jakarta Jazz Festival.   Over the past few years, Saleka wrote several songs (EP titled Songs from The Attic) for the Apple TV+ hit, Servant, which served to portray the never seen, but omnipresent character, Vivian Dale and the beautiful song, “Remain,” which also served as narration for the M. Night Shyamalan blockbuster, OLD.

With music to guide you through the existential, often confusing nature of life - Flo Petite strings colorful melodies together with melancholy autobiographical topics, usually paired with an acoustic guitar at her live shows. She will quickly enthrall you with her unique blend of bedroom pop, indie, and folk. Breaking onto the scene in 2018 with her debut EP, Soft Wrinkled Feelings, Petite wants to take you on a journey. What kind? That’s up to you to decide. She currently lives near DC, enjoys a good vegan mac & cheese and loves spending time with friends, family and her dog (Chichi).
