string(3163) "Carolina Jam: A Benefit Concert for Helene Relief

Jam out with four of DC’s up-and-coming artists while raising awareness and funds for the Hurricane Helene flood recovery effort in Western North Carolina. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to BeLoved Asheville, a 501c3 non-profit and community-based organization in North Carolina that provides much needed assistance to the underprivileged and underserved people of Asheville.

“We are dedicating all of our resources to help everyone in our mountain home. Our immediate focus has been on critical necessities like food, water, and healthcare for survival and stability.

As winter looms, we are securing warm and safe housing for the displaced. Looking further ahead, recovery from the vast destruction will be a large-scale investment over several years. We believe that we can unite to rebuild a community that embodies home, health, equity, and opportunity for all.”

About the artists:

Skate Draco

Skate Draco is an acoustic collaboration between DC artists Jeff Draco and Skate Stance. Together, they blend their jangly garage indie, dream-pop, and surf rock sensibilities to create a musical match made in heaven.

Eyefish Ink

Eyefish Ink is a psychedelic shoegaze band that started in 2023 when Simon Santodomingo @sasn.boy and Genesis Arocha merged their musical projects. They both met in music classes in Caracas, Venezuela over 10 years ago. The band is led by the Venezuelan immigrant couple, but it is an ever increasingly collaborative project with the other members, Ross MacDonald, Miles Johnson and Rainor Dale. (Bass, Drums, Guitar).

D-Steve

D-Steve is a DC-based singer-songwriter-guitarist who blends indie-rock energy with his blues and country roots. Lyrical and musical influences include Tom Waits, Spoon, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Pit Bull.

Girls on Toast

Girls on Toast is your new favorite girl band. Mixing serious messages with an upbeat sound, their approach to punk is reminiscent of 90s female-led bands like Hole and Veruca Salt with a silly and refreshing twist.

--

An experimental pop collective fronted by Andrew Grossman, The North Country has earned a reputation for vibrant music and colorful, raucous shows. With complex arrangements, danceable rhythms, and layered harmonies, the band spins catchy indie pop earworms. The dramatic vocal accompaniments from singers Margot MacDonald and Laurel Halsey, whose voices mimic everything from ethereal priestesses to aloof robots, draw cheers from delighted crowds. The North Country’s music deals with navigating digital fatigue, heartbreak, and blistering political commentary aimed squarely at the 1%. Their new album The Future's All We Need, which the Washington City Paper calls "...11 tracks of genre-defying, danceable deliberations on 21st-century civilization and its discontents", is out now everywhere.

--

Cal Rifkin is a power pop group from the Nation’s Capital consisting of Erik Grimm (Guitar/Vocals), Keith Butler Jr. (Drums), and Robin Rhodes (Bass). The band formed in the Fall of 2018 and was solidified by the members’ shared love for greasy Ledo’s pizza, early 90’s baseball aesthetics, and rock ‘n’ roll music.

Chock full of jangly guitars, big riffs, and gorgeous Beach Boys-esque harmonies layered over sugary hooks, Cal Rifkin's latest EP, Better Luck Next Year effortlessly captures the essence of ‘70s power pop. The lyrics strike a delicate balance between self-aware and heartachingly sincere, and the delivery is intimate and earnest without taking itself too seriously. Grimm’s uncomplicated melodies and driving lead guitar complement the groove of the rhythm section in a way that sticks in your head for days.

“All the ingredients are there…The driving, lo-fi rock sound, the sentimental lyrics, the secretly sick guitar solo…” - Mike Dranove (The Deli Magazine)

“The guitar driven single, [‘God Damn’], is a prodigiously story driven exclamation mark. The thought and instance of life – at the moment – at that slice of life.” “The song is a blissful shoegazy shimmer to hold on to.” -Come Here Floyd
