GIRLS ROCK! DC ANTI-PROM
Girls Rock! DC works at the intersection of art and activism, providing music programs for young people to learn, grow, and use the power of their communities. We foster a supportive, inclusive, and equitable space that centers girls and non-binary youth, especially Black and Brown youth. Girls Rock! DC bolsters leadership, self-expression, and a passion for social change through creative collaboration and community power-building.
Since our founding in 2007, our unique approach to music education — through a social justice and equity lens — has allowed DC’s young folks to build their self-empowerment, self-advocacy, and leadership skills, all led by role models from their own community. In an average year, Girls Rock! DC serves more than 100 youths and 20 adults through our after-school programs, camps, and workshops. Our participants go on to be more engaged learners, thoughtful artists, and confident community leaders. In other words, they become true rock stars.
