THE R&B CLUB PRESENTS: PRINCE

$15 / $20
Paid

Realistically, we could spend two hours just talking about Purple Rain. We’re going to talk about his pen for sure, because so many artists benefited from it. And we’re definitely going to discuss what an amazing guitar player he was, because that might actually get overlooked in the grand scheme of it all. Prince was arguably the most versatile artist of his era. Sonically, he dared to imagine the millennium during the early 1980s. He soundtracked Spike Lee and Batman films. And he reinvented himself constantly: the weirder he got, the better.

Join us at Songbyrd on Sunday, June 11, from 12-2pm. Tickets are $15 ($20 at the door) and you’ll want to buy yours ASAP, because we have a feeling they’ll go quickly. We’ve been waiting to do this for a while and figured the week he would’ve turned 65 is the right time.

The R&B Club is a cultural group founded in 2018 by music aficionado Ashley-Dior Thomas, entrepreneur and writer Marcus K. Dowling, award-winning writer Julian Kimble, and critically-acclaimed author and journalist Justin Tinsley to celebrate the legacy of soul music. In other words, think of it as a musical book club. For our fifth year, we’ll be doing a different theme every month. Follow us on social media at @therandbclubdc for more.
